our heavenly patron

"I WILL SHOWER
ROSES FROM HEAVEN"
- St. Therese of Lisiuex

St Therese of Lisieux (1873-1897) was a French Catholic who became a Carmelite nun at an early age. She died in obscurity at the age of 24. However, after her death, her autobiography – Story of a Soul was published and became a best-seller around the world. Her books explained her spiritual path of love and selflessness, and she became one of only three females to be considered a doctor of the Catholic Church

From an early age, it was Therese’s ambition and desire to be a saint. She was born into a pious and loving Catholic family. She remembers the idyll of her early childhood, spending time with her parents and five sisters in the un-spoilt French countryside. However, this early childhood idyll was broken by the early death of her Mother (from breast cancer). Aged only four years old, she felt the pain of separation and instinctively turned to the Virgin Mary for comfort and reassurance. The next couple of years of St Therese’s’ life was a period of inner turmoil. She was unhappy at school, where her natural precociousness and piety made other school children jealous. Eventually, her father agreed for Therese to return home and be taught by her elder sister, Celine.

She enjoyed being taught at home; however, after a while, her eldest sister decided to leave home and enter the local Carmel Convent at Lisieux. This made Therese feel like she had lost her second mother. Shortly afterwards Therese experienced a painful illness, in which she suffered delusions. The doctors were at a loss as to the cause. For three weeks she suffered from a high fever. Eventually, Therese felt completely healed after her sister’s placed a statue of the Virgin Mary at the foot of the bed. Therese felt her health and mental state returned to normal very quickly. Soon after on Christmas Eve 1884, she recounts having a remarkable conversion of spirit. She says she lost her inclination to please herself with her own desires. Instead, she felt a burning desire to pray for the souls of others and forget herself. She says that on this day, she lost her childhood immaturity and felt a very strong calling to enter the convent at the unprecedented early age of fifteen.

Just amazed. The campus, the facilities created for the students' overall development are models for the rest to follow. This could not have been possible without the vision, dedication and devotion . . .

"Going far beyond the call of duty, doing more than others expect.., this is what excellence is all about. And it comes from striving, maintaining the highest standards, looking into the smallest detail, and going the extra mile...".

From Principal's Desk...

St. Joseph’s School, now popularly known as Little Flower School Salempur, had a very humble beginning in a rented house on 18th April, 1984, a few months prior to the constitution of the diocese of Gorakhpur, aiming at the pastoral, educational and social apostolate.
On 20th March 1986 His Lordship Bishop Dominic Kokkatt CST laid the foundation stone for the priest house.  On 3rd July 1987 the mission station was handed over to the Little Flower Congregation. Then the St. Joseph’s English medium school was converted to Hindi medium school in 1988. In 1999 the school was shifted to the newly built premise from the temporary school and was renamed as the Little Flower School.
Realizing the great scope and future of the school and considering the starving need of the people for good education the school was converted to English Medium in 1996.
As a result of the relentless hard work of our pioneer Fathers and the cooperation of the people the school was affiliated to ICSE board of Examination and attained recognition for the same in May 25, 2001. With God’s blessings the school got Permanent Affiliation from the Council in the year 2008. The school celebrated her Silver Jubilee on 30th November, 2011.

Our Pioneers:
During its infancy, Fathers Jose Vattakkudy and Mathew Kulakkadamthadathil served the mission until Fr. Jose Paul Thottumury took over as principal of the school and the superior of the ashram. Then Rev.  Fr. Thomas Cherussery was appointed as the superior of Lisieux Bhavan and the principal of the school.  Fr. Cherian Elavakkunnel was appointed the principal and the superior of the ashram in 2001 and Fr. Sunny Pulichamackathotty had been his associate in 2002. Fr. Joseph Kottupilly had been serving as the superior of the ashram since 2003. Fr. Benoy Palakuzhy was appointed as the principal of the school when Fr. Cherian left for Nepal in July 2006. When Fr. Joseph Kotuppilly was transferred in 2009 Fr. Benoy Palakuzhy was appointed the superior of the ashram. Fr. Joji Nayath was appointed as the Vice principal of the school in 2011. As Rev. Fr. Joji Nayath left for the pastoral work in Germany Rev. Fr. Sebastian Chokkattu was appointed as the Vice principal of the school for the year 2012-15. Then in 2015 April, Rev. Fr. Lona Kallely took in charge as the principal of the school and the superior of the ashram. In 2015 Rev. Fr. Shibin Mattathil was appointed as the vice principal of the school. Again in 2017 June Rev. Fr. Biju Anjekkar took in charge as the Vice principal of the school. When Rev. Fr. Lona Kalley CST was elected as the provincial Superior Rev. Fr. Roy Mathew CST was appointed as the principal of the school on 19th April 2018. The untiring and great sacrifice and devotion of our pioneers can never be forgotten.Infrastructure
Campus:
Now we have around five acres of land for the ashram and school. In the main block there are 21 class rooms, a chemistry lab, three staff rooms and one administrative office. Above the rectory we have our well-furnished Physics and Biology labs. A well equipped computer lab with 65 computers helps the computer study easy for the students. Well specious library with latest books and periodicals, helps the students to enrich their knowledge. A separate block is built with 36 class rooms and four staff rooms. A separate examination hall with modern equipment is also constructed to conduct Board Exams. The land is also made use for sports and games and other co-curricular activities.
School at present

At present we have 2700 students in the school who are taught, motivated, guided and mouldby 91 teaching and 25 non teaching staff. We are happy to inform you that 17 batches of students have appeared for the ICSE Board examinations. We had already received permanent affiliation from the council with up gradation to +2 levels. Though it was paused for a short while, in 2015 again we resumed our +2 course with 35 students and the first batch has come out in flying colours in the ISC Board exams 2017-18.

We feel proud to say that the entire school runs with solar energy. One Hundred (100 K.W), solar panel meets the need of electricity in the school. Taking care of the safety of our students all the class rooms and campus are under the CCTV surveillance. I am extremely happy to say that neat and clean atmosphere, attractive and eco-friendly school campus, specious and well equipped smart class rooms and labs committed and dedicated staff and sincere and obedient students are the real asset of this pagoda of knowledge.
Conveyance facility
Children from faraway places are provided with conveyance facility. At present we have 9 buses and they fetch almost 600 pupils to the school.
Conclusion
Before concluding our brief history we thank the Almighty for showering upon the mission with His choicest blessings through the intercession of our Heavenly patroness and Saint Little Flower. With a spirit of gratitude we remember those persons who labored in the mission in the past to bring it to the present stage. Thanking one and all and praying for God’s blessing on each and every one of us, I conclude.
